  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
BCBA professionals assess your child’s needs, create a personalized Behavior Plan of Intervention (BPI), and oversee treatment programs. They may focus on areas like communication, social skills, and daily living. BAs and BCs have specialized training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and autism. A BA is certified as a "Board Certified Behavior Analyst" (BCBA). They can also help with problem behaviors and design support plans when needed.

  • Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP):
An SLP helps children with communication difficulties, including understanding and using speech, non-verbal communication, and written language. They provide assessments, diagnoses, and therapy for communication skills, including oral motor skills like eating and swallowing.

  • Occupational Therapist (OT):
An OT helps children with everyday tasks such as dressing, feeding, school readiness, and social skills. They assess and treat sensory, motor, and social challenges to help your child participate in daily activities. OTs also adapt environments to better support your child’s needs.

  • Physical Therapist (PT):
PTs focus on improving your child’s movement and physical health. They help with mobility, physical activity, and overall wellness by managing movement issues and improving independence. PTs also create treatment plans to address any physical limitations your child may face.

  • Behavior Interventionist (BI):
A BI works closely under the supervision of a Behavior Analyst, Speech-Language Pathologist, or Occupational Therapist. They implement intervention plans (such as the BPI), collect data, and assist with basic assessments. While they don’t create or adjust plans, they play an essential role in delivering therapy under professional guidance.

When selecting professionals for your child, it’s important to make sure they have the right qualifications and experience. Ensure they provide a treatment approach that aligns with your child’s unique needs. It’s also important to have a written agreement or contract that outlines their services, time commitment, and fees.
